MultiRouter LT, EN/LT, EN
Local Area RoutersWith Route Manager Software
For TCP/IP and AppleTalk Phase 2 Networks
MultiRouter local-area routers provide an easy way to increase the size of your network. By plugging in a MultiRouter on your IP or AppleTalk network, you can effectively expand your workgroup to include users in other networks. Or you can use MultiRouters to split up large, congested workgroups into smaller, more productive ones. MultiRouters transparently route data among networks, allowing users to share data and resources. They are completely compatible with all leading products using the IP or AppleTalk Phase 2 protocols, so users can share files and printers, send and receive mail, and perform other functions in the same way they do on a single network. With full direct memory access support, MultiRouter units can receive and/or transmit through all ports simultaneously, reducing delays in communication. MultiRouters support LocalTalk-to-LocalTalk, LocalTalk-to-Ethernet and Ethernet-to-Ethernet interconnections. Plug-in modules let you upgrade your unit easily as your network grows in size and complexity.
LocalTalk and Ethernet InterconnectionsMultiRouter LT routers allow you to interconnect up to four networks using LocalTalk or telephone cabling. With these units, you can choose between adding more networks or connecting in a hub-like configuration. MultiRouter LT was designed with efficiency in mind, making it possible to get more out of your network. Adding a MultiRouter LT to a congested network may solve your problems without the need to resort to more expensive cabling such as Ethernet. MultiRouter EN/LT routers connect an Ethernet network with either one or two LocalTalk networks. This configuration allows you to connect many LocalTalk workgroups through a common Ethernet network or backbone. In addition, IP support allows Macintosh users on LocalTalk to communicate with a UNIX host on Ethernet. MultiRouter EN routers let you connect an IP or AppleTalk workgroup using Ethernet to an Ethernet backbone. Typically, the two-port MultiRouter EN is used to separate a busy workgroup from the rest of the network. As your network grows, the MultiRouter provides an upgrade path. You can upgrade the MultiRouter LT to a MultiRouter EN/LT, and the MultiRouter EN/LT to a MultiRouter EN. All MultiRouters include IP subnetting, which allows any LocalTalk or Ethernet segment to be configured as an IP subnet. Routes can be user-defined static routes or learned using the Routing Information Protocol (RIP). The routers can be managed with the industry-standard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
