MultiRouter LT/Modem EN/Modem
Wide Area RoutersWith Route Manager Software
For TCP/IP and AppleTalk Phase 2 Networks
MultiRouter wide-area routers provide an easy way to expand your network to include remote sites. Two MultiRouter modem routers, linked by standard analog telephone lines using ordinary telephone wiring and connectors, can bring together remote Ethernet and LocalTalk networks quickly for high-speed data transfer. MultiRouters are completely compatible with all leading products using the IP or AppleTalk Phase 2 protocols. Users can share files and printers, send and receive mail, and perform other functions as they would on a single network. MultiRouters provide direct memory access support for all ports, leaving the router's processor free to perform high-level routing functions that increase performance. MultiRouter wide-area modem routers support both Ethernet-to-modem and LocalTalk-to-modem interconnections. Plug-in modules let you upgrade your unit easily to increase performance. You can also use MultiRouter wide-area routers in combination with MultiRouter local-area routers to increase the size of your on-site network.
LocalTalk and Ethernet InterconnectionsMultiRouter LT/Modem routers interconnect one or two LocalTalk networks to remote networks using standard analog telephone lines. The router supports local-area networks using either LocalTalk or telephone cabling. The MultiRouter LT/Modem handles multiple protocols on LocalTalk networks transparently. For networks using only the AppleTalk protocol, the routers function as simple plug-and-play units. For TCP/IP networks, they support encapsulation for routing to and from LocalTalk networks. MultiRouter EN/Modem routers interconnect an Ethernet network or network backbone to remote networks using standard analog telephone lines. An LT/Modem unit can be upgraded to an EN/Modem unit as your networking needs grow. Both models provide a full-duplex synchronous modem operating at V.32 bis (14.4 kbps). In addition, you can upgrade your MultiRouter wide-area router to synchronous models that function with synchronous data services such as DDS or T1. All MultiRouters include IP subnetting, which allows any LocalTalk or Ethernet segment to be configured as an IP subnet. Routes can be user-defined static routes or learned using the Routing Information Protocol (RIP). The routers can be managed with the industry-standard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
